Add hover to search bar and make entire area clickable

When using the search bar for looking up customers, I often accidentally click on the white-space between profiles (attachment below). This causes the search bar to reset and disappear. Propose to either remove the white-space and make it more apparent which user I am about to click on or prevent the search from resetting when clicking on the white-space.
